NICEIC acts as the electrical contracting industry’s independent voluntary regulatory body for electrical installation safety matters throughout the UK. It maintains and publishes registers of electrical contractors that have been assessed against Scheme requirements, including the national electrical safety standard BS 7671, the IEE Wiring Regulations.
The registers NICEIC maintains and publishes include the national Roll of Approved Contractors (established in 1956), and the Register of Domestic Installers. Since January 2005, Domestic Installers have been authorised to self-certify their domestic electrical installation work as compliant with the Building Regulations for England and Wales.
The NICEIC employs 70 full-time assessing engineers and over 100 associate assessors across the UK that make regular visits to registered contractors assessing their technical capability and inspecting samples of their work.
There are many benefits of using an NICEIC-registered contractor, including protection of an independent complaints procedure and guarantee of standards.
NICEIC helps to protect householders and consumers from the dangers of unsafe and unsound electrical installations. We provide advice on the dangers of electricity and building regulations.
